Simple Green Smoothie Recipe + Free Guide
I love the idea of eating healthy, and in my ideal world that’s exactly what I’m doing. However, is that always reality? Nope. Being a mom to two little ones, and working full time I find myself grabbing whatever is quick and easy which doesn’t always include veggies. Apparantely I’m not alone with the lack of veggies, according to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025, almost 90 percent of the U.S. population does not meet
the recommendation for vegetables. The USDA dietary guidelines state adults should have 3-5 veggie servings per day.
In order to get in more veggies, an easy and delicious way is to make a green smoothie! It’s called a green smoothie since you add greens to the mix like spinach. The key to making the smoothie taste good is mixing in fruit. Most times I can’t even taste the greens.
I find it easiest to put together my own recipe depending on the veggies and fruit I have on hand. To get your creative smoothie juices flowing, I created a free guide which gives you the basic ingredients to use. I’ll also share my go-to simple green smoothie recipe I’m loving these days.
Free Green Smoothie Basics Guide
I created a simple, free guide so you can easily create your own green smoothies. It tells you the ingredients to use, and the amount. What I love about the guide is the simple, ready-to-go ingredients making it super quick to blend up.
Tips for Making your Green Smoothie
- Blend it better by putting ingredients in this order in your blender: Liquid, Greens, Veggie, Creamy Base, Booster, Frozen Fruit
- If you are just starting out you may want to gravitate towards a bit more fruit to get used to the taste. Eventually cut back on the fruit to consume less of nature’s sugar.
- Buy frozen fruit to mix in. It makes your smoothies refreshingly cool, it’s not perishable so it’s east to always have on hand. If you are a banana fan, when they are becoming overly ripe I peel, cut, and toss in to a ziplock bag. I found that using frozen bananas adds delicious creaminess to the smoothie.
- Buy prewashed greens which makes it so easy to add to the smoothie
Simple Green Smoothie Recipe
Throughout the years I’ve tried various concoctions and here’s my favorite obsession, I’ll call it Cherry Delight!
Cherry Delight Green Smoothie Recipe
- 1.5 cups spinach
- 1 carrot or 5 baby carrots
- 1.5 cups milk or milk substitute (my fav is almond milk for this smoothie)
- 1 tablespoon nut butter (peanut or almond butter)
- 1 banana (my fav is when it’s frozen)
- 1 cup frozen cherries
- Dash of nutmeg spice (optional)
Add to your blender in this order: liquid, carrot, spinach, nut butter, frozen banana, frozen cherries. Blend away.
I have an inexpensive Oster blender with a glass jar that I love. I pulse for about a minute then blend on high speed for about 2 minutes. If you have a higher powered blender yours may liquify much quicker. I’ve had my Oster for 10 years, only needed to replace the jar once because it fell on the floor and cracked. I highly recommend it as an affordable option. It gets the job done and I love that it’s a glass jar, especially when I put hot liquids in it when blending homemade soup. I like knowing it’s not leaching harmful ingredients in to my food.
Final Thoughts
I’ve found that creating green smoothies is an easy and delicious way for me to get in the recommended amount of veggies and fruits. By keeping the ingredients simple, using pre-washed greens, and frozen fruit you can quickly put together your smoothie and usually have the ingredients on hand,
